H.Pylori – The Bacteria That YOU Need to Know About

H.Pylori
Are you experiencing constant stomach pain, fatigue, bloating, diarrhea, gas, and burping more than 20 times a day?

Many people experience these symptoms and reach out to their medical professional for answers. They are left feeling frustrated with more questions and no diagnosis. The Doctor’s will run multiple tests, sometimes invasive tests, and rounds of antibiotics and other medications. Even after all the tests, your diagnosis is still undetermined.

The Debilitating Pain

I had a client that expressed to me how she was experiencing consistent stomach pain. At times it would be debilitating to where she would have to cancel her plans (sometimes even work) and lay in bed in the fetal position. Some mornings she would wake up feeling fine, but after consuming a meal, she would feel pain in her abdomen again. There would also be moments that she just felt uncomfortably full and in severe pain even when she hadn’t eaten a thing the entire day. She was finally fed up and knew this wasn’t something she was going to solve on her own.

She went to the emergency room. When she arrived, they administered typical blood labs and everything came back normal, yet she knew nothing was normal inside of her body. She went to the emergency room a second time, due to the unbearable pain she was feeling, and again the tests came back negative. The next day she went to her doctor and after a simple blood test for H. Pylori, the test came back positive!

Common symptoms of H. Pylori are:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Gas
  • Abdominal pain (typically upper abdomen)
  • Negative reactions following a meal

Understanding symptoms

How it’s Spread?

Helicopter pylori (H. pylori) are a type of bacteria which effects more than 50% of the world’s population and most people have no symptoms. H. Pylori are more often found in underdeveloped countries due to the contaminated water and the lack of hot water (which kills the bacteria). But in every country, we deal with food that is contaminated from the unsanitary handling of our food or the spread of bacteria.

Because H. Pylori is passed person to person by saliva and by fecal contamination, the best and most effective way to prevent H.Pylori is keeping up on your personal hygiene:

  • Washing hands
  • Not touching your face or mouth with your hands
  • If you have children, teach them to do the same

Early Diagnosis is Key!

H. pylori bacteria can wreak havoc on the stomach by decreasing the amount of stomach acid that reflexes back into the esophagus, which can cause ulcers or even cancer. Unfortunately, H. Pylori often goes undetected because it is not routinely tested for even when a patient is experiencing the common symptoms of H.Pylori. Many people have an MRI, routine blood work, and the results still come back normal, yet they are very ill. Typical blood labs do not test for H. Pylori.

Ask your doctor about the following tests to determine if you are suffering from H. Pylori:

  • Stool tests
  • Breathing test
  • Endoscopy- simple procedure that is done by a gastroenterologist

The Journey to Healing

After my client was looking for answers and went diagnosed for two years, she was finally on her journey to healing. Her doctor also referred her to a gastroenterologist, and it was determined that she had gastritis as well. Immediately following the diagnosis of H.Pylori, treatment starts right away because left untreated due to the destructive outgrowth of bacteria, it can causes serve long-term effects. My client started a treatment called triple therapy that includes two different antibiotics and antacids. In the end, it took two rounds of antibiotics to heal the H.Pylori. Sometimes the first round isn’t enough to kill the bacteria, and that is what happened in her case. Six weeks after taking a round of the antibiotics, a stool test for H.Pylori is repeated to see if bacteria still present.

My client’s quality of life has increased immensely; she is less stressed and worried about sudden pain while at work or while doing her daily routine activities. She felt as if the H.Pylori stopped her life completely because she was always stressed and in fear of the pain coming back. She can now live her life to the fullest and even travel without being in fear of sudden pain returning. Her life changed in a matter of just 6 months!
